Garment sewing has always intimidated me. I have memories of my soft-spoken mother, a fabulous seamstress, cursing repeatedly while sewing garments. Many, many years later, when I attempted garment projects that failed miserably, I decided to limit myself to home decor and accessories sewing. Recently, however, I've made skirts for my daughter and myself, and, yes, we can actually wear them! (See photos below) Granted, they are elastic waist skirts following easy patterns but they've boosted my confidence in the area of garment sewing.
I've been following the sewing blog,
Coletterie for a time now and, in addition to the great posts on sewing tips and tricks, I love the posts featuring the seamstresses that have made garments from the Colette Patterns. The Colette Patterns are feminine and classic without being dated and it's fun to see how different sewists personalize their garments. I'm now inspired to to buy
The Colette Sewing Handbook: Inspired Styles and Classic Techniques for the New Seamstress, and give garment sewing a serious try! I'll try to keep the cursing down to a minimum, though. :)

Very cute! I think you have given me inspiration to tackle the ruffle skirt that I have had in mind for my little one!
ReplyDeleteSuni,
DeleteGreat! Here's a really cute, easy t-shirt dress tutorial from I Am Momma - Hear Me Roar (http://www.iammommahearmeroar.net/2012/01/martha-stewart-show.html). Cheri was even on Martha Stewart to demonstrate her tutorial!
Sadly, my little girl is no longer little but I still want to make this dress! It's so cute! :)
